Relates to versions - SQL Server 2005 (9.0.1399.06)+
This guide has been created to assist Database and IT Administrators in limiting the amount of memory Microsoft SQL allocates to database caching.
Overview:
By default, Microsoft SQL server will allocate memory for database caching dynamically. The cache settings can be adjusted in the event that SQL Server wants to utilize all available memory.
Steps:
- Open SQL Server Management Studio and connect to the instance relevant to the server you want to manage the memory allocation.
- In Object Explorer, right-click the server instance.
- Select 'Properties'.
- Click the Memory node.
- Modify the 'Maximum Server Memory (in MB). Set the value depending on the application or requirement advised by your Micromine Pitram Support Specialist.
- Press OK to submit the change. The change will be effective immediately and additional memory consumed by SQL for caching purposes will be released to the system.
