Introduction
The AdHoc Network Service used for P2P can be configured for two modes for WIFI Network Adaptor to create the hotspot. The two modes which can be used is “Wireless Hosted Network” or to use “WIFI Direct Feature”.
The units which are Bluetooth enabled from Motium have the WIFI adaptor Atheros QCA61x4A.
The standard Wi Fi Adaptor card in Motium units which aren't Bluetooth enabled is Atheros AR9580
-
Windows is phasing the Wireless Hosted Network mode out therefore Atheros QCA61x4A doesn't support the “Wifi Direct Feature”
-
Atheros AR9580 in theory supports both the modes. Even though Atheros AR9580 technically has the option to be configured to use “Hosted Network mode” or “WI-FI Direct Feature”
Warning - If AR9580 configured to use Wi-Fi Direct Feature then there is a known bug where it will cause the Motium to have BSoD.
Configuration
A separate Ad Hoc Network Service Profile will have to be configured for Motium units which are Bluetooth enabled. This is required so that one profile can use "Hosted network" and the other can be configured to use the "Wifi Direct Feature"
The Ad Hoc Network Service Profile which has been configured will have a suitable name to reflect that its used for Bluetooth enabled Motiums. In the following example used for a drill is the AdHoc Network Service Profile is named Data Source AdHoc Network Service Profile BLE. The tag we have added is BLE which is short for Bluetooth Low Energy to indicate that this unit is Bluetooth enabled.
The AdHoc Network Service Profile can be assigned to each equipment in the Mobile Unit Configuration table in Reference Edit module in Pitram Portal. Site must have a registry of which mobile units are installed in which equipment based on the Motium's serial number.
Configuring Motium Clients with WIFI adaptor Atheros QCA61x4A for P2P
On the client machine (i.e the motium unit itself) the PITRAM Ad Hoc Network Service must have the Startup type set to Automatic (Delayed Start). The default setting for the Startup type is Automatic.
